  i'm a bible student and the i've been told that this issue depends on my conscience.. .

  i am a jiu jitsu student and have been for a 4 years.

  it's more of a sport.

  You may want to know that most people who post here are ex Jehovah's Witnesses. Their view on what is or should be acceptable may very well differ from what the Watchtower Corp. considers acceptable. That is not to say that some can't give you an explanation of what WT expects because many here are exceptionally competant at that.
  

  One problem with this subject is that many people feel that Watchtower is often ambiguous so as to avoid being pinned own on certain issues (for whatever reason - legal or otherwise) and it may very well become a matter of interpretaion with issues like the one you have presented.

  I have heard some discuss the concept of "competitve sports" being considered bad while I have also heard others comment on "contact sports" being bad.

  My opinion is that any worldly association is considered bad by the JWs and therefor the acceptable standard would be whether or not the sport is involving group participation with non Jehovah's Witnesses. Since that is generally discouraged, I suggest that would be the standard by which a JW's conduct would be judged by their peers regarding the isssue of involvement in sports.

  Perhaps there are some others posters here who can provide quotes from Watchtower Corp. publications which will discuss this topic.

  i was just watching nightline (i think it was) with diane sawyer.

  the stars from ocean's twelve were on there.

  i am not a person who normally gives too much praise to celebs or athletes but these guys/gals (brad pitt, catherine zeta-jones, andy garcia, george clooney, matt damon and don cheadle) were pretty brilliant.

  after reading ray franzs 2 books and much information on this site we did a search comparing wt qoutes and had a local elder soon to be circuit ovsr at our house and the funny thing was he was unaware of much of the early wts.he also expressed some doubts when he applied to be a ministerial servant and they sent him back a letter making him an elder.his wife was here and when we brought coc out she jumped up like a person on fire.

  the elder asked where else could we go?so there is doubt amoung the elders for sure.

  i have a sense of loss however cannot support a self proclaimed prophet that is contrary to scriptural teaching and associated with falsehood and bloodguilt.

  I pretty sure the JWs were under ban in Canada during part of WWII as well

  Really? I thought it was only Quebec. I will have to check that out. If they were under ban I wonder if it had anything to do with the WT egging on Hitler to persecute the Jews?

  that's exactly where the governing body - and directors- find themselves.. they are becoming painfully aware of growing malaise and lack of growth in the organization.. in response, they could:.

  scream louder about armageddon being close ( not likely to work).

  The reasons the Witnesses were banned in Canada

  Hold on there cowboy!

  This occurred only in one Province in Canada, that being Quebec.

  It was back in the 50s? and it was thanks to an iron fisted Provincial leader (that would be like a state governor to you Yanks) name Maurice Duplessis.

  He had a personal gripe with JWs and Communists (to name a few). THe JWs always try and play up the angle of Quebec being so dominated by the Roman Catholic church who influenced Duplessis. The Catholics were very dominant in all aspects of Quebec life in the 50s, Quebec is still probably the most Catholic Province in Canada and the Catholics were suspicous of both JWs and Communists (turns out they were right about the commies who tried to assasinate the Pope) but most people have come to realize that Duplessis was in fact more than a little nutty.

  JWs were able to legally fight this tyranny by Duplessis and restore their religious (cult) freedoms in Quebec.

  I just noticed that there does not seem to be a correlation between pioneers and baptisms. At first glance I thought there might even be a negative correlation because of a few months where pioneers went up and baptisms went down as well as the converse of this. Realistically though the some of the changes were too small to consider significant. As well the disproportional month of July where alot of people wait to get baptized at annual conventions. When these factors are considered, It appears more like no correlation at all is the case.

  I find that unusual. I would think that there would, if anything, be a positive correlation between these two activities.

  Is that typical? I have not looked at previous years stats to check this but it would seem a logical conclusion. Is it possible that these sats are incorrect?

  I'm sure they already do, and I'm pretty sure CSIS is watching them in Canada.

  Are you sure that it is not in fact the R.C.M.P.?
